K.Ichiyanagi No.45 Cedar/Indian Rosewood 2013 Japan

Up for sale is a high-end concert guitar produced by one of the most respected Japanese luthiers Kazuo Ichiyanagi. Model No.45 designates the price of 450,000 yen, which was about 4,500 USD in 2013.  Mr.Ichiyanagi, whose luthier career started in late 60s, in his late years made guitars together with his son Kunihiko, so the label K.Ichiyanagi is fair to interpret like Kazuo/Kunihiko. What we have here is classic combination Cedar/Indian Rosewood, both tonewoods are of exceptional quality. Neck is mahogany/ebony, scale is 640 mm, nut width is 52 mm. Bracing pattern is complex, with lattice and fan elements combined. Finish is shellac. Tuners are high-end Gotoh. Excellent condition – there are few marks from the playing but nothing really worth mentioning. No cracks, no repairs. Strings are at comfortable height. Sound-wise, it is one of the best classic guitars I’ve heard in a while – boldly loud, focused, projective, with dark rounded tone and well-controlled dynamics. Rumour has it that Mr.Ichiyanagi has special technique applied for gluing the tonewoods, and with that jaw-dropping sound coming out, I would easily believe that.
